Carthage, IL – Carthage aldermen want to revise their mobile home ordinances.
Mayor James Nightingale says the move came at the request of the county's Supervisor of Assessments.
He says the definitions of a mobile home were different in the city and the county.
That made levying the proper assessment difficult.
Nightingale says the proposed ordinance being discussed by aldermen requires that mobile homes be in mobile home parks.
Otherwise, he says they must be on a foundation and will be taxed as housing.
In addition, the proposed ordinance stipulates that once a mobile home is removed from a residential lot, it must be replaced within six months or no other mobile home may be moved in.

Mobile homes are taxed at a flat rate.
If they are considered permanent housing, they are given an assessed valuation and taxed at one-third of market value.
