Macomb, IL – The Macomb School District is seeking a tax levy of $9,788,000. That's an increase of 4.99% from what it received for this fiscal year.
Superintendent Alene Reuschel says the district is asking for every bit as much as is legally allowed.
The biggest chunk is for the education fund. Reuschel says it pays for day-to-day expenses including teacher salaries, books and supplies, and the electric bill.
The amount of money the school district actually receives will be determined by the county clerk's office based on the equalized assessed value of property in the district.

*The district's biggest funds are education, operations & maintenance, and transportation:
$6,550,000 of the proposed levy is for the education fund.
$995,000 is for the operations & maintenance fund.
$400,000 is for transportation.
*Those three funds are extended to the maximum rate under the proposed levy:
$3.30 for the education fund.
50-cents for the o & m fund.
20-cents for the transportation fund.
*The school district says all other funds are to be extended as per the PTELL formula.
