Rushville, IL – Rushville's mayor is becoming exasperated with efforts to get the town's new well in operation.
Scott Thompson says the new well was drilled over the summer to augment the town's other three.
However, he says the tests on water from the new well show bacterial contamination.
He says the city has withheld the final payment to the well drilling firm until the water is acceptable for consumption.
The well is in the Illinois River bottomlands, near the city's other three.

Thompson says the well was drilled because production on the other wells is beginning to decline.
He says the original walls have not been maintained as they should have been.
The drillers have treated the new well in an attempt to eliminate the contamination.
The cost of the new well is about $371,000, including land acquisition, utility hookups, drilling and the pumping equipment.
