Hamilton, IL – A request to close a township road could lead to Hamilton hiring new legal counsel.
City Attorney Stanley Tucker also represents W.L. Miller Company and its operations.
The construction firm wants a portion of Tower Road, which connects Highways 96 and 136, to be closed so the company can mine property it owns across the road from its current gravel pit.
With the city's role and responsibilities in the matter in question, especially surrounding ownership and zoning requirements, a change in counsel appears likely.
The Hamilton City Council met in closed session for about 15 minutes, earlier this week, to discuss Tucker's employment.
After the private meeting, Mayor Steve Woodruff said the next finance committee meeting, scheduled for Monday at 6:00 PM, would explore employment of a lawyer for representation of Hamilton.
