Keokuk Public Library Receives Accreditation

Keokuk, IA – The Keokuk Public Library is once again in line for some state funding.

The reason is because the state has restored the library's accreditation.

Director Emily Rohlfs says libraries in Iowa must meet a large number of standards, such as public access, collection contents, and hours of operations, to qualify for the designation.

The Keokuk Public Library lost its accreditation in July of 2006 after budget cuts led to Saturday hours being eliminated.

Rohlfs says Saturday hours are no longer an issue.

She says the library was able to hire a part-time worker, which allows the facility to be open from 9:30 AM to 1:30PM on Saturdays.

The Keokuk Public Library's current accreditation lasts through June of 2010.

Rohlfs says the library is now eligible for roughly $4,000 in state aid.
