Warsaw, IL – Voters will be asked to decide whether two Hancock County school districts should reorganize.
The Warsaw and Nauvoo-Colusa school boards have each approved the placement of a deactivation question on the February 5 ballot.
Warsaw voters will be asked to deactivate their junior high school and send those students to Nauvoo-Colusa while Nauvoo-Colusa residents must decide whether to deactivate their high school and send those students to Warsaw.
Warsaw Superintendent Kim Schilson says the reorganization would help the districts deal with declining enrollments, which is being seen at the high school level in Warsaw.
Schilson says community meetings will be held, starting in December, to inform the public about the key issues surrounding deactivation.
They include curriculum, transportation, and local control.
Residents of both districts must approve the deactivations for the plan to move ahead.

* The two districts have not included the Hamilton School District in their deactivation discussions.
* Schilson says Nauvoo-Colusa and Warsaw could, if approved, cancel the deactivation if it doesn't work out.
