Keokuk Exploring Housing Options

Keokuk, IA – Keokuk is still working on a comprehensive strategy for housing developments on the city's north side.

The idea came about after an Illinois-based developer approached the city council about rezoning a small portion of the roughly 225 acres of land north of the Oak Meadows Subdivision for a housing project.

Mayor Dave Gudgel says city leaders recently met with represenatives of the people or companies that own the land in question to talk about Keokuk's need for housing.

He says discussions focused on accessibility, water, sewer, and population density.

The development plan could be completed in roughly two months.

Meanwhile, the city council approved the first reading of a measure that would rezone land near the Keokuk Country Club from residential to condominium use.

Another developer wants to construct a 12-unit, gated community in that area.
