Fort Madison, IA – Congressman Dave Loebsack (D-IA) says some key pieces of legislation were approved in 2007, including an increase of the federal minimum wage.
But when he looks back at 2007, Loebsack gets frustrated.
He says that is because of President Bush's repeated veto threats and how those actions impacted the work in Congress.
The Congressman hopes the President will stop that practice in 2008 and start working across the aisle.
Congressman Loebsack says the veto threats have had a direct impact on proposals to end the War in Iraq.
He says the President should listen the field of candidates running for the White House who are pledging to work with members of both parties.
Meanwhile, Loebsack says improving education will be one of his top priorities during his second year in Washington DC.
He says that starts with No Child Left Behind.
The Congressman believes some major changes in rules and regulations are needed before Congress should re-authorize the law.
He says test scores should also be evaluated differently.
Loebsack says the scores for individual students should be compared from year to year to see if growth is taking place, instead of comparing classes of students from year to year.
