Macomb, IL – The winning pieces from a photography competition are now on display at the WIU Art Gallery. The exhibit is called The Photograph As An Art Object.
The pictures were taken by amateur and professional photographers from throughout the region. More than 70 images are on display.
Art Gallery Curator John Graham feels the exhibit includes many styles. He says "There's a range of traditional black and white photography as well as some cutting edge, new technology that's primarily digital."
The exhibit will remain on display on the first floor of the WIU Art Gallery through February 7.
A public reception and awards presentation will be held on Tuesday January 22 from 6:00-8:00pm.

*This year's juror for the competition is award-winning photographer John Vellenga of Monmouth.
*The 18th triennial photographic competition is supported by the Macomb Area Convention & Visitors Bureau, Camera Land, Art City, and Tri States Public Radio.
*A separate exhibit is on display on the second floor of the WIU Art Gallery. Birds, Bugs and Beasts is held in conjunction with and in support of WIU's 2007-2008 campus theme of "Global Challenges, Personal Responsibility, and Environmental Sustainability."
*Birds, Bugs and Beasts features drawings and prints by Michael Barnes, Pete Olson, and Joel Peck. Barnes and Olson work at Northern Illinois University while Peck is employed at Elgin Community College.
*The exhibit Birds, Bugs and Beasts remains on display at the WIU Art Gallery until March 6.
