Macomb, IL – Macomb will soon try to start the Northeast Water Main Project.
Mayor Mick Wisslead says the city will use some of its CDAP, or Community Development Assistance Program, money to publicly advertise and solicit bids to replace the 60 year old mains.
He hopes to open bidding on Feb. 21 and award the bid on Mar. 3.
Mayor Wisslead says the new mains will be built next to the old ones, so service will remain virtually unchanged.
He and Public Works Director Walter Burnett say the project should take no longer than 3 months.
Wisslead says the city's request failed the first time because there were holes in the application and it was asking for too much money. The original request was for $400,000, but the city reapplied and received $350,000.
Additional Information:
*The project will replace approximately 15,000 feet of water mains in the northeast part of Macomb.
*The project will remove the current 4 inch thick cast iron mains and replace them with 6 to 8 inch PVC pipes, which will improve flow.
*The work will be partially funded by the CDAP grant, and the city will pay for the rest using water funds.
