Keokuk, IA – The Keokuk City Council has been split for weeks over how much the city's new parks director should be paid.
,br>The man who has accepted the job says his fellow council members need to stop arguing and make a decision.
After another heated debate during last night's workshop, 6th Ward Alderman Gary Stepp told the council that he has never seen it so at odds over an issue and that it was time for the panel to do what is best for the city.
Stepp was originally offered the job at a salary of $45,000.
A few council members objected to that figure, though, which has prompted several votes that have resolved nothing.
Mayor Dave Gudgel will offer the council a proposal, at next week's meeting that sets Stepp's salary at $38,500 with no probation period and an automatic salary evaluation.
Other proposals being discussed for next week's meeting include setting Stepp's salary at $42,000 and at $35,000.
