Keokuk, IA – The field of candidates looking to replace a long-time state lawmaker from Southeast Iowa is starting to take shape.
Jerry Kearns of Keokuk is the first Democrat to formally announce his campaign to replace State Rep. Phil Wise (D-Keokuk), who is stepping down after 20+ years in office.
Kearns' top priority, if elected in District 92, would be economic development.Kearns brings political experience to the race, having served on the Lee County Board of Supervisors for nearly two decades, starting in 1983.
He is currently staff representative for the United Steelworkers Union.

* Kearns is a member of the American Legion in Keokuk, the Elks Club in Keokuk, and the Lee County Democratic Party, among others.
* Retired Keokuk police officer, Gary Ramaker has also announced his intentions to run as a Republican in District 92.
