Keokuk, IA – Members of the Keokuk Police Department will get a pay raise later this year.
The Keokuk City Council has signed off on a new one year contract, effective July 1, with the bargaining unit that represents more than a dozen officers and dispatchers.
Some will get a 6% wage hike while others will receive 2%.
Finance Sub-Committee Chairman Doug Matlick says the increases were based on how Keokuk's salaries compare with officers and dispatchers in similar communties.
Matlick says this deal allows the two sides to avoid arbitration.
The police bargaining unit, which has approved the one-year offer, initially asked for 11% in year one while the city offered pay hikes of 3-4%.
Matlick says officers will also receive additional funeral time in the new deal.
