Go West Recognizes 10-Millionth Rider

Macomb, IL – Ten years ago, the idea of a fixed transit system in Macomb and at Western Illinois University was only an idea. But today, it is much more than that.

Go West Transit has grown from two routes in 1999 to eleven routes and twenty-six buses today. The system had its 10-millionth rider last week, and marked the occasion with a ceremony this week.

W-I-U Senior and Macomb native, Amy Brehm, says she rides Go West every day and was surprised when she found out she was the 10-millionth rider. Brehm was presented with a hat, laniard, embroidered Go West jacked and a 100-dollar gift certificate to the book store.

The estimated ridership for the current school year is more than 1.6 million. During the first year of service, Go West had nearly 649-thousand riders.
