Clark County, MO – The stretch of Highway 61 between Alexandria, MO and Keokuk is now closed because of rising flood water.
Engineer Jennifer Hinson says the Missouri Department of Transportation closes a flooded road as soon as there is more than 4" of water on it.
She says it is much higher than that, at 6" to 8".
Hinson says drivers who need to travel between Lee County and Clark County should use the Avenue of the Saints.
She says it could be a week before the road re-opens as the Des Moines River is not expected to crest until Sunday or Monday.
Hinson says a full inspection would then take place to make sure the flood water did not damage the highway.
