Lee County, IA – Planning and design delays are not expected to impact the construction schedule for a multi-million dollar expansion and renovation of the Lee County Jail.
John Hansen of Midwest Construction Consultants says the final plans should be wrapped up by the end of the month.
He says a need for additional engineering work delayed their completion.
Hansen says construction is now scheduled to get underway in July, beginning with the move of 18 inmates from three housing trailers to a temporary dorm.
He says the trailers are in the path of initial construction.
Hansen says the estimated $6,000,000 project will go out to bid as soon as designs are complete.
He says the new addition to the Lee County Jail should be completed in one year, with the renovations to the current facility beginning after that.
