Keokuk Borrowing More For Pool

Keokuk, IA – Keokuk is borrowing more than first anticipated for its new swimming pool.

The pool's current design, which includes a slide, lap lanes, and zero-depth entry, carries a price tag of roughly $3,000,000.

The city council, during last night's meeting, voted to borrow up to $4,000,000 for the project.

Finance Sub-Committee Chairman, Doug Matlick, says the move could counter cost over-run, especially diesel fuel, or pay for upgrades to the property surrounding the new pool.

Matlick says that while the extra costs are unknown... he does not expect the total cost of the project to be four-million dollars.

Matlick says the city will use T-I-F dollars to pay back the money, so property tax rates will not increase.
