Macomb, IL – Western Illinois University has concerns about the State Legislature's recently concluded session. One issue is the lack of a Capital Projects Bill.
Western President Al Goldfarb says there are major projects at the University still waiting for that money including: deferred maintenance dollars, money for a new Performing Arts Center on the Macomb campus, and money to renovate the first building on the Quad Cities campus.
Western's other concern regards the state budget. Right now, the spending plan calls for W-I-U to receive a 2.8% funding increase, which is more than $1.6 million dollars. Goldfarb is concerned spending will be cut, because the budget is not balanced.
Additional Information:
*Goldfarb says he has been in contact with local legislators discussing the importance of a Capital Bill. He also sent a letter to the House and Senate leaders indicating the University's strong need and support for a Capital Bill.
*Goldfarb says the University has had to reallocate funds in the internal budget to pay for necessary improvements on campus.
