Mississippi River Flood Warnings Continue

The Tri States Region – The National Weather Service says extreme rainfall the past week across Iowa and Wisconsin has pushed the Mississippi River to higher levels than previously forecast.

The flood warning continues for western Illinois, southeast Iowa and northeast Missouri until further notice. Major flooding is expected.

The Hancock County Emergency Services and Disaster Agency says volunteers were needed to help with sandbags in Warsaw.

The latest rundown from the NWS:

*At Keithsburg: Flood stage is 14 feet. The river was at 17 feet and rising Thursday. It's forecast to rise to 22.3 feet by Wednesday morning, then begin falling. At 21 feet, water reaches the top of the Keithsburg levee.

*At Gladstone: Flood stage is 10 feet. The river was at 13.8 feet and rising Thursday. It's forecast to rise to 20.2 feet Wednesday morning, then begin falling.

*At Burlington: Flood stage is 15 feet. The river was at 18.4 feet and rising Thursday. It's forecast to reach 24 feet Wednesday evening before falling. At that level, water is in the Burlington Post Office lot and it reaches the top of the Number 1 and 2 Henderson levees.

*At Keokuk: Flood stage is 16 feet. The river was at 17.5 feet Thursday. It's expected to rise to 25.3 feet by Thursday morning June 19. Water at that level will impact Keokuk's sewage treatment plant, low lying buildings in Hamilton, and Route 136 near the Mississippi River bridge.

*At Gregory Landing: Flood stage is 15 feet. The river was at 18.7 feet and rising on Thursday. It's forecast to reach 26.4 feet on Thursday June 19.
