Fort Madison, IA – Crews are still preparing Lee County's jail for a complete renovation and expansion.
Construction Manager John Hansen says a temporary housing unit should be completed, and ready for state inspection, within the next 2-3 weeks.
Inmates will be eventually be moved there so three run-down, housing trailers can be removed from the construction site.
The Board of Supervisors will decide, next week, who will be working there.
Chairman George Morgan says the board is happy with the construction bids, given current economic conditions.
The roughly $6,300,000 project is expected to be completed in about two years.
