Macomb, IL – A historic landmark in Western Illinois is for sale. Bids are being accepted for the
Wyatt Earp Birthplace in Monmouth.
Robert and Melba Matson have owned the home since 1986. Melba Matson hopes the person who buys the home will continue to keep it open as a museum. Matson says she and her husband have only charged the museum $1.00 for rent each year. She says it has cost them a lot of money, but they have enjoyed doing it for Monmouth.
Matson says all of the furniture, antiques, and artifacts in the home are included in the sale, except for those items that have been donated to the museum. Matson says the minimum bid is set at 100-thousand dollars. She says that is approximately how much they have put into restoring and maintaining the home.
The home is on the National Register of Historic Places.

*Matson says this year a 160th Birthday Celebration will be held at the birthplace home. Hugh O'Brien, who played Wyatt Earp on TV, will be at the event.
