Macomb, IL – A Macomb doctor says he's been given a gift, and he will share that gift with the public during the next couple months.
The gift for Dr Samuel Gines is the ability to paint landscapes. About 30 of his works will go on display at the WIU Union Grand Ballroom Gallery beginning August 16.
Gines started painting as a child in the Philippines, but his artistic ability laid dormant for many years because he was busy with his medical and surgical practice.
Gines picked up a brush again about ten years ago. He finished a painting started in 1976 and continued painting after that.
Gines says he's inspired to interpret what God has created. Some of Gines' paintings are of landscapes he's seen with his own eyes. Others are painted from photos sent to him or that he's come across in magazines such as National Geographic.
Gines uses a soft stroke in his oil paintings. The scenes look realistic. His use of color and shading brings viewers into the scenes.
