Keokuk, IA – A Keokuk man is facing more charges in connection with the alleged theft of nearly $250,000 from three local organizations.
Doug Atterberg, 63, has now been charged with one count of ongoing criminal conduct and one count of money laundering. That is on top of the three counts of first degree theft he is already facing.
Atterberg allegedly stole nearly $150,000 from the United Presbyterian Church and nearly $47,000 from the Keokuk Community Fine Arts Council since 2001.
He is also accused of stealing $43,000 from the Lee County Historical Society since 2003.
The ongoing criminal conduct charge is the most serious. It carries a penalty of up to 25 years in prison.
The other charges each carry a maximum sentence of ten years in prison.
Atterberg is scheduled to be arraigned December 1.
He has also served in a leadership position on the Keokuk Historic Preservation Commission and on the George M. Verity Museum Commission.
