Macomb, IL – McDonough County's new spending plan contains a bit of "wiggle room." Finance committee chair Alice Henry says the budget includes enough in cash reserves for the county to operate for an additional 4-to-5 months.
Henry says the projected cash balance at the end of the 2009 Fiscal Year is $1.38 million. Henry says that puts the county in a much better place than what it has been. However, Henry says she would be happier if there were enough cash reserves for at least six months of operations.
The $15.3 million dollar budget was approved by the county board this week. It goes into effect December First. Henry says total appropriations are down 3.7% compared to the current budget. She says that's because the county has been able to pay off some of its debts.
Additional Information:
*Henry says this is the second year in a row total appropriations are down.
*Henry says $6.3 million of the total $15.3 million budget is appropriated to the county general fund.
*The only board member to vote against the budget was Gary Sherer. Sherer felt the board should vote on adopting the 2009 tax levy before voting on the budget.
