Fort Madison, IA – The Lee County Conservation Board says it's having a positive impact on the county, especially when it comes to the economy.
The organization's annual report for FY 2008 shows that more than $350,000 was generated through camping, facility reservations, and hunting fees.
Executive Director Tom Buckley says the economic impact of county conservation efforts is often overlooked. "When people spend a weekend camping or go to an area to fish, they spend money on more than just buying equipment or paying for a campsite. They take food and refreshments for the weekend and they often run to the store."
Buckley says the report does not include revenue generated by fishing on county land or general use of parks.
He says the Lee County Conservation Board plans to continue improving Pollmiller Park and to continue working to acquire nearly 900 acres of land for hunting and fishing during the current fiscal year.
