New Bus Route in Galesburg

Galesburg, IL – A fourth bus route will be added in Galesburg. Galesburg Transit General Manager Kraig McClusky says it will serve as an "express loop."

The express loop will take passengers between Sandburg Mall, the Seminary Square Shopping Center, and downtown Galesburg. He says the route will run twice an hour.

McClusky says ridership has gone up roughly 14% in the last year. He says the hope is to reduce the "stress" that has been put on the already existing 3 routes.

McClusky says the new route will also better serve the Knox College campus area. He hopes the new route will encourage Knox students to use the bus system.

McClusky says the city has enough buses to cover the additional route, plus Bridgeway has donated a passenger bus that it is no longer using.

McClusky says the new route will cost his agency an additional $98,000 per year. McClusky says that covers the estimated cost for additional bus drivers and operation of the bus. He anticipates the bus will bring in roughly $6,000 in revenue each year.

McClusky adds minor changes will be made to the existing three routes.
