Bloomington, IL – The Illinois Farm Bureau is working on its vision for agriculture in the state.
President Phillip Nelson says the organization has been working on a project that looks at all aspects of agribusiness and production agriculture. The project is called "The Vision for Illinois Agriculture."
Nelson says it describes where the agricultural industry in Illinois should be in the next 5-to-10 years. Nelson says the project outlines 3 main goals.
He says the group would like Illinois to be in the top 3, as it relates to commodity production agriculture. He says the state currently ranks 5th. Nelson says the second goal is to be the 2nd largest food sector in the country. Nelson says right now, the state ranks 4th or 5th. Lastly, Nelson says Illinois can be the leader in biofuels. He says that includes everything from biodiesel plans, to ethanol plants, to wind energy.
Nelson says the Farm Bureau will continue to strive to reach these goals. He says this year the group will work on implementing and addressing the goals.
Nelson says the Farm Bureau has been working on the project for the past year-and-a-half. Nelson says these are all very important issues that can help grow the agricultural industry in the state in the next decade.
