Keokuk, IA – The life of a "prominent benefactor" of Keokuk will be explored during the annual meeting of the Lee County Iowa Historical Society.
President Sue Olson says J.C. Hubinger played an important role in the city's history. "Hubinger was a hometown boy who felt that everyone from Keokuk and the area should have the same possibilities as other people in larger towns."
Olson says Hubinger founded a starch company in Keokuk in the late 1800's. She says he also owned a brick factory, developed a trolley system, and helped bring electricity to the city.
A slide show presentation on J.C. Hubinger will take place Thursday, January 29 at 7:00 P.M. at the Trinity Methodist Church. The event is free and open to the public.
A dinner and the annual meeting of the Lee County Iowa Historical Society will begin at 6:00 P.M.
