Hannibal, MO – The Missouri Department of Transportation is looking for the best location for a bypass, around Hannibal, for the Avenue of the Saints.
Engineer Paula Gough says MODOT should wrap up surveying work in Marion and Ralls Counties in a couple of weeks. Much of the work will be done using an airplane and white targets on the ground.
Gough says the focus is on a route for the Hannibal Expressway that was first proposed more than a decade ago. She says it runs from the intersections of Route 24 and Highway 36 to Route M.
Gough says other locations will be surveyed to make sure MODOT has enough information to determine a route for the Hannibal Expressway. She says that is as far as the engineering work is expected to go.
There is no money in place for construction or land acquisition. Gough says the project would not qualify for the much-talked about federal economic stimulus package.
