Macomb, IL – Low and middle income seniors can once again receive free help with their tax returns in Macomb.
The annual program is put together by the AARP. Assistance will be provided at the YMCA Senior Center on Tuesday and Friday afternoons and on Saturday mornings beginning February 6. The program will continue this year as long as there is a demand for it.
Coordinator Steven Rock says appointments are required. "We want to make sure that we leave enough time for everybody to take care of their returns," says Rock. "Some we can do fairly quickly and they're fairly simple. Some have a little bit more complexity to them and so we need a little bit of extra time (to complete them)."
Appointments can be made by calling the YMCA Senior Center at (309) 837-5733.
Rock says the returns will be prepared by volunteers who have been tested and certified by the Internal Revenue Service. Basic, non-business US and Illinois returns will be completed.
Rock says there are a few new wrinkles with this year's tax forms, but for the most part things have stayed the same.
Rock hopes the program can help 80-to-100 seniors with their returns. He also hopes to add more volunteers in order to help more people.
