Fort Madison, IA – The most-recent budget session revealed the panel must address a large deficit.
The early numbers for next year show spending would exceed revenues by nearly $1,000,000 in two key funds. That's on top of a nearly $850,000 projected shortfall in the current budget.
Chairman Gary Folluo says the board knows cuts could be coming, adding that the panel is confident the department heads will be able to adapt. He says, "If we let them know that we need 'x' amount of dollars, I am sure they will be able to manage their departments much better than we would."
Folluo says the board has focused on smaller departments or those that generate their own revenue. That includes community housing, the Lee County Health Department, DHS, and court administration.
Folluo says the county's larger departments will be up for discussion Tuesday morning.
