Summer Jobs Program in SEIA

Keokuk, IA – The local branch of Iowa Workforce Development will oversee a 6-8 week program for young adults, ages 14-24.

Janet Fife-LaFrenz chairs the organization's Regional Workforce Investment Board.

Fife-LaFrenz says there will be up to 200 jobs in a wide variety of professions. She says, "It gives an opportunity for those youths to have a summer job that would not be available in the economics that we have now in our region."Fife-LaFrenz says training in specialized fields will also be provided through Southeastern Community College's Center for Business. She says that includes welding and electrical.

Fife-LaFrenz says jobs would be available through both businesses and not-for-profit organizations. She says notices and information will be sent out to alert potential employees and employers.

Fife-LaFrenz says businesses would not be eligible if they hire the young adults to replace laid-off regular employees.
