Rushville, IL – Some students in the Schuyler-Industry District might soon be bused to a different school.
Superintendent Matt Plater says the district is considering moving either the 5th or 6th grade students back to the Rushville middle school location. Plater says they're currently bused to Industry.
Plater says he is looking to see if there is room at the Rushville location to put more students. "The administrators and I are currently mapping out where the sections fit and whether we could down size or back that off a little bit to maybe busing 5th grade only and bringing 6th grade back to our middle school," says Plater.
Plater says the district started busing the 5th and 6th students to Industry about 3 years ago. "It was a big political deal when we moved 5th and 6th grade and started busing all students up to the Industry site," Plater says. "Academically and financially we thought it was best, at the time, to have that building full. But now our circumstances are changing, 3 years later."
Plater says the Industry building is very full and very well utilized. "It allowed us back at the Rushville buildings to not be so crowded and not be so full," says Plater. We could spread out and give some of these extra services and extra programs full size rooms to function and operate."
Plater says the move would save the district money because it would spend less on transportation. He says the board might vote on the proposal at next month's meeting. Plater says if the board approves the change, it would take effect this fall.
