Canton, MO – Richard Hanson, B. David Rowe, and Richard Valentine are in the running to serve as the Culver Stockton College's 25th president. They would replace current C-SC President Richard Fox, who is taking the same position at his alma mater, St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY.
Richard Hanson serves as President of Waldorf College in Forest City, IA. Rowe is Vice President for Advancement at La Grange College in La Grange, Georgia while Valentine holds the same post at Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky.
Search Committee Chairman Don Gnuse says the three finalists share a similar trait. He says, "They have a sense of urgency. They are ready to move on and make things happen, without waiting around and thinking about something for 6 months. They would hit the road running."
Hanson will be on campus from April 22-24. Rowe will be in Canton, MO from April 30-May 1 while Valentine's visit will run from May 5-7.
The three will take part in tours, meetings, and public forums.
Gnuse says more than 60 people applied for the post. 16 received a phone interview while 8 were selected to meet face-to-face with the search committee in St. Louis.
Gnuse says the search committee will make a recommendation to C-SC's Board of Trustees, which he also chairs, in a matter of weeks. He says the selection must excel in fund-raising, curriculum development, and attracting students to campus.
The new president should be in place before July 1, which is when President Fox will leave office.
The search committee has been meeting since December 2008.
