Hickory Grove Apartments to Open This Fall

Carthage, IL – A new supportive living facility will soon be open in Hancock County.

The complex is called Hickory Grove Apartments. It will consist of 22 apartments. Judy Klein is Vice President of Resident Services at the Hancock County Nursing Home. "We can house 25 residents there," Klein says.

Klein says a needs assessment indicated there is a need for a supportive living facility for senior citizens in the county. "A regular assisted living is rather expensive," Klein says. "And 50% of these apartments have been set aside to receive grants from the state to help pay for the care."

Klein says the unfurnished apartments include a living room, kitchenette, bathroom and either one-or-two bedrooms. "The kitchenette will have a microwave and a small refrigerator with a freezer," says Klein. "The meals will be provided at the facility. There's a common dining area that we would want the residents to come out and use."

"The bedrooms and the bathrooms have a wireless emergency call system," says Klein. "The clients can wear a pendant that links in to that call system if they're not in their bed or bathroom and they need assistance. It's called worry free living."

The complex is located at 400 South Adams Street in Carthage. Klein hopes residents can move in this fall. "We hope by the end of September construction will be finished," Klein says. "The patients would start moving in in October."
