Macomb, IL – Macomb is moving forward with plans for a vehicle maintenance center.
Aldermen agreed to hire the firm Camp Dresser and McKee (CDM) to handle the planning and design aspects of the project. The company will be paid no more than $497,508. The money will come from a federal grant.
CDM will oversee phase one planning, schematic design, design development, and construction documents.
Sixth Ward Alderman Tim Lobdell says the city hopes to be reviewing construction documents by January. "That might be a little aggressive, but we're trying to keep an aggressive schedule so that we can take advantage of stimulus money," says Lobdell.
Lobdell says CDM will help the city make better informed decisions. He says the city needs a better idea of what can be accomplished within its budget.
Macomb hopes to renovate the former Porcelain Products Company plant. The building in on East Pierce.
The center will be used by McDonough County Public Transportation as a garage and storage site for its vehicles.
The city still needs to finalize the price for acquiring the site.
