Taverns Open Later in Rushville?

Rushville, IL – Rushville is exploring the possibility of extending its liquor license hours.

Mayor Scott Thompson says some tavern owners would like to serve alcohol past midnight. Thompson says that is the current cut off time.

Thompson says extending closing time to 1:00 am would prevent some people from driving to Beardstown after the bars close in Rushville. "We have nothing against our friends in Beardstown, but we do have something against people driving drunk on our city streets and state highways," says Thompson. "If we can keep people from over-indulging in Rushville and keep them in Rushville, then by all means we should do it."

"I don't think that is an unreasonable request," says Thompson. "We have shift workers in town that want to go after work and spend a little bit of time socializing. These are issues you can't run from. I will address it and live with the results."

Thompson says this is one way the city can work with the business community.
"Tavern owners have had it tough," Thompson says. "This might help their business a little bit."

Thompson says a meeting on the issue will be held on August 3 at 6:00 pm.
