New President for CSC

Galesburg, IL – A former student at Carl Sandburg College will be the school's next president.

The Board of Trustees unanimously agreed to hire Dr Lori Sundberg. She will become the first CSC graduate to serve as the school's president.

Sundberg says she attended CSC twice. The first time was right out of high school. The second time she was in her early 30s. Sundberg thinks this could help her as president.

"I think I can relate to the traditional age college student as well as the non-traditional student who's coming back," says Sundberg.

Sundberg declined to talk about her vision for Carl Sandburg College. She says she wants to focus on her current job for the next nine months. She's the school's vice president for academic services.

She's held her current position since 2007. Before that, she was the school's vice president of administrative services. Sundberg has been an adjunct professor at CSC since 1995.

Sundberg received a three year contract. Her starting salary as president will be $143,000. She will also receive a full 8% SURS (retirement system) contribution and a $10,200 annual automobile and gasoline allowance.

Sundberg will replace Thomas Schmidt, who is retiring. Sundberg will be the school's sixth president.

Carl Sandburg College has campuses in Galesburg, Carthage, and Bushnell.
