Macomb, IL – Macomb Police say they received numerous calls from residents and law enforcement officers reporting a bright light in the sky. As it turns out, people across the Midwest saw the same thing.

Andy Ervin is a senior Meteorologist with the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities. NWS confirmed that it was indeed a meteor, but Ervin saw the event for himself. He says it was quite a sight to behold.

"[It was] certainly the brightest meteor I've ever seen," says Ervin. "I think with most folks that we've talked to, we've talked to quite a few people who were able to witness that, it was either exceptionally bright, or probably the brightest thing most folks have seen in the sky beyond lightning or the sun."

Ervin says the meteor showed up on radar. Images from the National Weather Service indicate the meteor's smoke trail may have been picked up over Iowa County in southwestern Wisconsin.

As of 7:00 a.m. Thursday, there have been no reports of damage or injuries. Ervin believes there may have been ground contact in Wisconsin, but there's not been confirmation.
