Macomb, IL – Rich Egger's guest is Tanya Triche, Senior Counsel for the Illinois Retail Merchants Association. They talk about the first-ever sales tax holiday in Illinois.
The 5% state sales tax will be waived for some items from August 6 through August 15. Local sales taxes will still apply.
The sales tax holiday is being billed as a back-to-school event. The state sales tax will be waived for clothing and footwear costing up to $100. School supplies also qualify. Jewelry, computers, most other electronics, and sports gear do not qualify.
A full list of items that qualify for the tax break can be found on the Illinois Department of Revenue website.
Sales tax holidays also begin August 6 in Iowa and Missouri. However, they last for just two or three days.
