Galesburg, IL – Movie buffs in this region will soon have a chance to help judge short films from around the world.
The event is the 12th Annual MANHATTAN SHORT Film Festival. Audiences in more than 200 cities spanning six continents will take part between September 26 and October 3.
The Galesburg Civic Art Center is organizing the local screenings. The movies will be shown at the old cinema inside Sandburg Mall on Friday, October 1.
The films will be presented back-to-back beginning at 6:00pm and again at 8:45pm. Admission is $6.00. The cost is $5.00 for senior citizens and students. Ten short films will be shown. All are 15 minutes or less.
"I think it's exciting. You get a chance to be part of something that is perhaps going to be the world's largest film festival. You do get to vote on your favorite film," said Heather Norman, Director, Galesburg Civic Art Center.
She believes the art center was asked to get involved because it hosts its own film festival (The Black Earth Film Festival). This is the first year the art center has been involved with the MANHATTAN SHORT Film Festival.
Votes from around the world will be tallied up and results will be announced on Sunday, October 3.
The 10 finalists were chosen from among 440 entries received from 43 countries. The finalists are from the United Kingdom, Mexico, Croatia, France, Ireland, Australia, Canada, Poland, Germany, and Italy.
