Lee County, IA –

Lee County

Lee County is making more improvements to its two courthouses.

The Board of Supervisors has agreed to spend about $800 to carpet a pair of rooms in the north Lee County Courthouse. One of the rooms will be used by new District Court Judge John Wright.

The board has also agreed to replace the carpet in the Clerk of the Court's offices in the south Lee County Courthouse. That project carries a price tag of about $6,000.

Lee County has already refurbished the walls and woodwork and installed a new filing system in those offices.

Keokuk

Keokuk is asking the state of Iowa for $600,000. The money would be used to separate sewer lines in and around Victory Park.

The EPA has told the city that it must separate its combined sanitary and storm-water sewer system to keep run-off from entering the Mississippi River.

Victory Park is located along the river.

The city says local funds and money borrowed through the state's Revolving Construction Loan Fund would also be used for the project.

Des Moines County

"Green" training programs will soon be available in southeast Iowa.

Southeastern Community College will use a roughly $200,000 state grant to offer certification courses related to energy efficiency and green construction.

The courses will be open to displaced workers, unemployed individuals, veterans, at-risk youth or employees looking for additional training.

Iowa Works Regional Director Deb Dowell says qualifying individuals are eligible for help in paying for the certification courses. She says the dates and times for the courses have yet to be determined.
