Keokuk, IA – The Keokuk School District hired SVPA Architects to develop its long-range facilities plan. The West Des Moines-based firm's document divides dozens of projects into three priority levels.
The Keokuk School Board has officially voted to proceed with all but one of the Priority One projects.
The total price tag is roughly $13.5-million. The district plans to use revenue from the state's one cent sales tax.
Business Manager Greg Reynolds says SVPA Architects has already started the design work. He says the state must sign off on the projects before the work can get underway.
The district hopes to start a couple this summer. They include a five-room addition to Hawthorne Elementary School and electrical and mechanical upgrades at Keokuk High School.
The additional to Hawthorne Elementary would allow the district to close Wells-Carey Elementary School.
The only priority project that did not make the initial cut was improvements to the Keokuk High School Band and Vocal rooms.
