Macomb, IL – Macomb hopes to complete a major road project during a month-and-a-half period this spring.
The plan is to resurface University Drive from Route 67 to Western Avenue. Portions of Western Avenue between the two legs of University Drive will also be resurfaced.
Public Works Director Walter Burnett told aldermen there will also be some deep-strength repairs, some white topping, and a minor amount of storm sewer work.
Burnett said the project could begin in mid-May, after Western Illinois University concludes its spring semester. The project could be finished by the end of June.
"The deep-strength repairs and the storm sewer work will be the determining factor on that (how quickly it gets done). The resurfacing itself is going to be relatively quick," Burnett said.
The estimated price tag is $750,000. The city will pay the entire cost. The money will come from the half-cent sales tax.
During their January 18 meeting aldermen authorized city staff to solicit bids for the project.
