Macomb, IL – The McDonough County Highway Department says it won't plow county highways overnight.
He says it's a waste of time.
"We can't stay ahead of it," Hickman explains. "If you send a plow down there, in a half hour it's blown over again. During the night it wouldn't make any sense for us to go out there. We're only going out there on an emergency call basis."
Hickman says visibilities are down below a quarter mile in many places throughout the county, and that makes it especially difficult to see at night. Hickman says crews have many of the same problems as ordinary motorists.
He says crews have to use utility poles to center themselves because ditches may be filled with snow, and there may be few, if any tire treads.
Hickman says crews will be back on the roads around 6:00 Wednesday morning.
