Macomb, IL – Fourth Ward Alderman Mike Inman scored an overwhelming victory in the contest to become Macomb's next mayor.
"I'm gonna be the number cheerleader for this community," Inman said. "Obviously I have a whole lot of people that are willing to step up to the team and help me cheer lead. (It's a) Very rewarding, very satisfying feeling knowing that we can move forward and with such strong support."
Inman said one of his top priorities is to develop a better relationship between the city and Western Illinois University.
"I have no reason to believe that (new WIU President) Jack Thomas and I can't work hand-in-hand on about anything as it relates to this community moving forward," Inman said.
Inman also said the city budget will be a priority.
Inman received more than 78% of the vote (1,978 votes) to easily win the race.
Second Ward Alderman Ed Lavin finished second with 15% (379 votes)
"We both had clean campaigns and we left it up to the voters and the citizens of Macomb to make their choice and it looks like they have," Lavin said.
WIU student D'Angelo Taylor finished third with almost 7% (170 votes).
Inman will succeed Mick Wisslead, who chose to step down after two terms as mayor.
Inman will be sworn into office May 2.
