Macomb, IL – The chief executive officer for a medical center in Kansas will be the next president and CEO of McDonough District Hospital.

37-year old Kenny Boyd will take over in Macomb on July 25. The hospital's Board of Directors chose Boyd after a nationwide search that yielded more than 100 applications.

Boyd thinks MDH will be a good fit for him professionally and personally. He said that became evident after he brought his wife, Nakina, along for the second interview.

"She really enjoyed her time in the community and we got to see some things on a personal level as well as professional. Everything just fit right with the size of the community and the type of the school system," Boyd said. "And then when you look at the job, it was a perfect fit for my skill set."

Boyd has served as CEO of Girard Medical Center in Girard, Kansas, since 2006. The 35-bed critical access facility has five outlying clinics and a home health agency.

Boyd has also worked at hospitals in Clintwood, Virginia and Norton, Virginia during his 12-year healthcare career.

In a news release, MDH Board President Donald Dexter said, "His (Girard's) experience as a CEO in a comparable size hospital with strong outreach services, his ability to build partnerships, and his enthusiasm are among the many qualities he will bring to MDH."

Boyd said one of his main challenges at MDH will be to rebuild the primary care base.

"There's been an unfortunate departure of several primary care physicians over the past couple of years," Boyd said. "I think one of the key things will be building that base back up and then working with surrounding health care providers to ensure that residents of McDonough County have ready access to quality health care right there at home."

Boyd said that during his five years in Girard, the size of the hospital's medical staff grew and the hospital added several specialties.

Boyd's base pay will be $230,000. He replaces Stephen Hopper, who retired in January after 26 year's as MDH's president and CEO.

MDH Vice President for Finance Linda Dace has been filling the position on an interim basis.
