FORT MADISON, IA – The Sheaffer Pen Museum will open tomorrow (Friday) at 627 Avenue G in Ft. Madison. The museum is next door to the site where Walter Sheaffer began manufacturing pens in the backroom of a store nearly 100 years ago.
The new museum draws on Ft. Madison's nickname as the "Pen City."
Museum secretary Mark Roberts said displays will highlight the company's history, not just its products. "Pens are an artistic expression as well as the artwork that was done for the advertising. So there's really something to accomodate almost any interest out there."
The museum will feature videos of some of the celebrities who used and advertised Sheaffer pens. They include Walt Disney, Jackie Gleason and Jimmy Durante.
The museum will be open from 10 to 6 tomorrow and Saturday. Admission is free.
