Six Applicants For Keokuk City Council

Keokuk, IA – Six residents beat the Monday, July 25 deadline to apply to fill two vacancies on the Keokuk City Council.

The seats opened up after 4th ward alderman Roger Bryant and 5th ward alderman Mike Girard moved out of their wards.

Three residents applied for each seat.

4th Ward
Jason Schmitt
Larry Mortimer
Mark Hoyt (former at-large alderman)

5th Ward
Sandy Pollitt
Steve Rairden, Jr.
Jack Helenthal

The Keokuk City Council generally interviews each applicant when it has a vacancy.

The panel could set up a scheduled during this week's workshop, if enough current members attend the meeting.

The goal is to fill the two vacancies early next month.

The two people selected will have to decide whether to run to keep the seat during the November municipal election.

The seats that will be on the ballot at that time are Wards 2, 4, 5, and 6. One at-large seat will also be up for grabs.
