Montrose, IA – The Board of Supervisors plans to hold a town-hall meeting early next month.
The targeted audience is residents of Croton, Wever, and Mooar.
Residents of these communities previously agreed to work with Fairfield-based Regional Utility Service Systems (RUSS) on the development of sanitary sewer systems.
Personnel issues for RUSS and another supporting agency (GEODE RC&D) has led to the projects being put on hold.
Board Chairman Ernie Schiller says that is why Lee County wants to get everyone in the same room to make sure they know why the sanitary sewer projects are being delayed.
Representatives of the Iowa DNR, RUSS, GEODE RC&D, and the Lee County Health Department will be invited to attend.
The meeting will focus on one issue in particular: selling a home without a sewer connection.
Iowa law requires a home have adequate sewer services before it can be sold.
That usually means a connection to a sewer system or a septic tank.
Residents of Croton, Wever, and Mooar would have that opportunity once the new sewer systems are in place. There is no timeline for that at this point.
Schiller says residents need to know if they need to install a septic tank as soon as possible.
The tentative dates for the meeting are either Thursday, September 1 or Thursday, September 8. It would take place at the Central Lee campus at about 6:30 P.M.
